Carry a little piece of Gretna Green with you wherever you go with our our enamel anvil pin badge. The story of the Gretna Green Anvil dates back to 1754 when England passed the Marriage Act, which required parental consent for those under 21 to marry. In Scotland, however, young couples could marry without such restrictions. As a result, many couples fled to Gretna Green, the first village over the Scottish border, to be married quickly and easily.
The village blacksmiths, known as "anvil priests," conducted these marriages over the blacksmith's anvil, symbolising the forging of a strong union. The anvil became a powerful emblem of love and commitment, and the tradition of getting married over the anvil continues to this day.
Crafted from durable enamel, this pin badge is designed to be both stylish and long lasting, perfect for wearing on jackets, bags, or hats.
